What a laser pass leaves behind
The laser takes off the layer on top of the metal, and leaves the metal itself. Here it is on a truck frame rail.

Why a laser instead of blasting or chemicals
It removes rust and corrosion, paint and coatings, oil and surface contaminants from metal. Here’s how it compares with the two usual ways of doing that.
